Some thoughts to consider ahead of the debate. Also look at the preceding post for dates

Hi 12s,

Here are some of the things we discussed during today's class:

English 12 The Taming of the Shrew
Final considerations:

·      What does it mean to be ‘Tamed?’
·      Who/what is typically tamed and how is this taming done?
·      Did anyone (in the play) require taming?  Why or why not? Use critical theory in your discussion.

Note the following sections:
Go through the things Kate says throughout the play. Consider her motivations. Take her at her word.
Below are some sections to note post marriage. See how both She and Petruchio conduct themselves. Consider motivations.
·      (4.1. 155-200)
·      (4.3. 5-60)
·      (4.3.70)
·      (4.3. 165-195)
·      (4.5. 1 -----)
·      (5. 1. 142-149)
·      (5.2. 11-37)
·      (5.2.100-end)

Define tamed. Is Kate tamed? If so, how? If not, why not and how do we know?
What role does gender, power, history, psychology play in the answers you give/the outcome of this play?
What purpose does the opening/induction, with Sly, play in the overall experience of The Taming of the Shrew?

Here is the first bit of the sample paragraph from last class. Thanks to Parisa for granting permission to share it. I'll get the rest up asap.

We will have our debate next class.
Last post has your dates.
Ms.S
