Updates: reading & reflecting/representing UPDATE!

!

Hi all,

(Note that there will be a valedictorian assembly during G block April 24. Come  for attendance and we will go there  together.  This will slightly alter the plan for the day but will not send us too far off course.)

Below please find the notes from last day's class and below that (as  well as in previous posts) you will find our timeline:

See me for additional copies of the Reading-logs.

Mapping the structure or format of your
Non-fiction book:
April 18/19

·       I want you to start reading this book as though there is a movie in your mind.
·       Learn what the underlying structure of the book (specifically the introduction) is. We are paying attention to the attributes one may find in non-fiction texts.
·       For next block, read or re-read the introduction (first 50 pages?) Think about the underlying text structure and map it like a comic book template.
·       Choose from samples provided by the TOC or create your own template.
o    Think about which template best describes the structure of your intro.
o    Ex. Does it start off with a lot of info., maybe history, maybe a story? Then, does it kind of break into smaller pieces? Is it then followed by another longer bit at the end, perhaps pulling the ideas together?
o    The cell of each of the comic strips should translate to a different chunk of the introduction
o    In each of the boxes you can have words or a paraphrase where you describe what is going on in that part. Feel free to use images as well.
o    You must have some textual evidence for each box’s chosen focus.

·      End date for reading is May 13th
April 16:·      In-class Synthesis essay test.

. Ms.Loasby will be returning with your essays. : )
April 26th:
·       Reading-log homework check
·      Meet with someone who is reading a book that is very different in idea/attitude/area of focus. (Discuss provided questions)
